Attending Buildspace changed my life in ways I didn’t expect. As someone who’s been building small businesses (or startups, as some prefer to call them) since I graduated from university, I had a decent understanding of small business entrepreneurship in Singapore. But stepping into the world of tech startups was a completely new experience.

A Different Perspective: At Buildspace, I encountered something that shifted my perspective. Meeting tech-focused entrepreneurs was an eye-opener, even though I suspected I wasn’t the ideal target audience. Nonetheless, the energy, the vibe, and the shared passion for innovation were contagious. There was something unique about the people there—everyone was excited, hopeful, and supportive. It felt like a true community where ideas flowed freely, and no one was left behind.

Feeling Like an Outsider: Coming from a non-tech background, I couldn’t help but feel a little out of place. At most, I could call myself a WordPress developer—most of my work revolves around no-code solutions. Yet, being surrounded by techies at the conference gave me a fresh perspective on startups and small businesses. The drive and innovation in the tech world expanded my understanding of what’s possible in entrepreneurship.

Pushing My Limits: What’s interesting is that I found myself pushing my boundaries at Buildspace. Even though there were some constraints, I felt motivated by the supportive people around me. I also took the opportunity to work on some side quests, deepening my skills and knowledge further.

The Road Ahead: Returning to Singapore, I realized that I had changed. Inspired by what I learned, I decided to revamp my approach to business. I attended a Branding Masterclass and developed a clearer vision for my projects. Now, I’m ready to launch my revamped sites and focus on three core businesses.

  • Magic Entertainment: A company delivering magical performances for events and parties.
  • Media Company: Focused on storytelling about people and culture.
  • Consulting & Coaching: My personal brand, BertBrain.co, where I help individuals go from zero to one in their startups.

The journey through Buildspace has reshaped how I view my entrepreneurial ventures, and I’m more energized than ever to keep building.

Conclusion: Attending Buildspace wasn’t just another conference for me—it was a turning point. I walked away with new connections, fresh perspectives, and a renewed sense of purpose for my businesses. I look forward to the road ahead, and I’m excited to keep pushing boundaries with the support of this incredible community.
